If you're using a ductless system to keep your home cool this summer, you're going to want to keep an eye out for any problems that may develop. The more you rely on your ductless system to keep you cool, the more strain you'll put on the system and the more likely it will be for problems to develop. Let's take a look at some of the common ductless issues that you may run into this summer.
Refrigerant is the core of many air conditioning systems. When in cooling mode, the air handlers that make up your ductless system evaporate refrigerant in order to absorb heat from the air in the home. The outside unit then condenses the refrigerant back into a liquid in order to vent the collected heat outside. The system doesn't consume refrigerant during this process, and the initial amount that it receives upon installation should be enough to last for its entire lifespan.
If a leak develops in the refrigerant line, it will cause a steady decline in the liquid the system needs to operate. The output of the system will steadily decline, as well, eventually resulting in a full system breakdown. Call for repairs as soon as you notice fluid dripping from your ductless system.
Each air handler that makes up your ductless system is equipped with oiled bearings, which help the system to run more smoothly. As the bearings in the air handler motor wear down, the friction on the system will increase. This will cause a loud grinding sound to come from the air handler. If you don't have the bearings replaced in time, the air handler motor will overheat and burn out. If you hear a grinding sound coming from your air handler, call for repairs right away.
